Marine Corps League West Valley Detachment 1490 continues the tradition of Marine Corps service after active duty by supporting veterans, assisting civic and community events, and preserving the values of the Corps across the West Valley region.
Members remain active in ceremonies, memorial observances, outreach efforts, and partnerships that strengthen the local veteran community while keeping Marine Corps traditions visible in public life.

Who Can Join
Membership Eligibility
Marine Corps League membership is open to honorably discharged Marines, active duty Marines, FMF Navy Corpsmen, and FMF Chaplains. Associate membership is also available for family members and supporters who want to participate in detachment programs and service efforts.
Regular Membership
Open to eligible Marines and qualified FMF personnel who want to continue service, fellowship, and participation in detachment activities.
Associate Membership
Available to family members and supporters who want to assist with detachment programs, community service, events, and outreach efforts.
Serving Our Community
Community Support
Members assist with local events, outreach efforts, patriotic observances, and programs that strengthen the wider veteran community.
Veteran Assistance
The detachment supports Marines and veterans through fellowship, practical assistance, ceremonial presence, and community connection.
Ceremonial Participation
Members participate in color guard ceremonies, memorial observances, and public events that honor Marines, veterans, and national service.
History
History of the Detachment
Established May 25th, 2022, Marine Corps League West Valley Detachment 1490 was chartered to bring together Marines and qualified FMF personnel across the West Valley region who wished to continue serving their community after active duty while preserving the traditions and values of the United States Marine Corps.
Since its founding, the detachment has participated in civic ceremonies, memorial observances, and community events that recognize military service and strengthen connections among local veterans and their families.
Members of Detachment 1490 remain active throughout the West Valley through color guard participation, partnerships with local veterans organizations, and outreach efforts that support Marines, veterans, and community programs.
The detachment works alongside organizations including VFW Canoga Park and other community partners to support ceremonies, veteran recognition efforts, and public events throughout the region.
Today, the detachment continues to grow as a local organization committed to fellowship, service, and maintaining a visible Marine Corps presence across the West Valley area.
