From Yellow Footprints to EGA: Parris Island Empowers Marines
For generations of Marines, the journey has begun at Parris Island. Recruits arrive as civilians and step onto the yellow footprints, where discipline, teamwork, and Marine Corps values begin shaping their transformation. Over 13 demanding weeks, they face physical training, close order drill, rifle qualification, water survival, the gas chamber, the Combat Fitness Test, and the Crucible. The final challenge leads them to the Iwo Jima Monument, where they receive the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor and earn the title United States Marine. More than one million Marines have trained at Parris Island, carrying forward a legacy built on honor, courage, commitment, and service to the nation.
